Deep Cove

Terri requested this painting some time ago whilst we were taking night  pictures overlooking Deep Cove.
I had a large canvas 28" by 40" or something like that,  given to me and it needed a picture on it.
Once I started on the background there was no stopping me, I became fixated with the lights, and the sunset's glow on the water.  Using just the right colors to create the distant blacks was very tricky.

My first commissioned painting - price - free.

A PRETTY LADY

A couple of months ago I attended a portrait painting demonstration by a local artist, Zwany van Gust - she is a very good artist - trained in Holland.

Zwany paints in acrylics and I in oil, so instead of painting her examples I decided to paint my own example using her technique and tips.  That is how the "pretty lady" happened.
I hope she likes herself - I like her.
( I got a lot of glare on the photograph, even though I didn't use a flash - grrrr!)

Reflecting

Over the summer I was given the opportunity to enter a show at the Chilliwack Museum.
Having recently visited the Burnaby Museum, I decided to check the pictures I took there for inspiration as the show was entitled "Memories"
I used my picture of a "display" home from way back, deleted some clutter (museum artifacts) added the little boy's face reflecting in the mirror as he peeks in awe into the window.
It was a fun painting.

The play of light and reflections on water is always a fascination.
Capturing it plus the movement in the water was quite a challenge.
I'm happy with the result  . . .  and the painting is sold to a good
home.

Spring brought  some foggy and frosty early mornings.
Which is what inspired the picture below.
